Black Friday Haul Part 2: House of Beauty Co Review

House of Beauty co was having a Black Friday sale where everything was 50% off! My friend kept sending me videos from their Instagram of these lippies and I was very turned off by the fact that they seemed very goopy and they would always open the little jar and show off that it was goopy. I was skeptical that I would like these lippies so when I saw that they were going to be 50% off I thought I’d just give them a chance.

I ordered two products, a Lip Hybrid Tube(normally $10, sale price $5) in 24k a deep gold color, and Aquarius (normally $16, sale price $8) which is a teal blue in their original jar formula. When I received my order I was pleasantly surprised to find a full-size jar of their color Heart of Fire (a $16 gift!). I checked my packing slip and it only showed the 2 items I ordered so I was very happy with that. Shipping I believe was $4.95, so in total I think my order came out to $17.95.

I think these lippies are pricey especially for the jar size but you don’t need that much on your lips so realistically these little jars last awhile. I’ve applied both jar formulas and I can say that I don’t like it. This is personally because I like to put my makeup on with ease, so I prefer tubes (which is why I got the lip tube hybrid as well). The lipgloss sticks are so much easier for me than to spend at least 5 minutes with a lip brush trying to be precise and get into every corner. Some people like this but I do not.

The goop factor was something I didn’t like as well. You have to be careful of opening the jar because the product acts like melted cheese. Now that sounds strange but there is a string-like effect like when you pull apart melted cheese. I had to be careful not to let the string break off in any area that wasn’t in the jar or the cap of the jar so I wouldn’t loose product.

I tried Heart of Fire first which is a shimmery red with a bit of copper. The pigmentation is there in both lip jars, very much so. But I felt Heart of Fire went on easier. The first swipe of color was more opaque and I only had to build up like maybe two layers to get full coverage over my lips. It was much easier to apply and get a nice color without it becoming sticky and feeling like cheap lipgloss.

I can’t say the same for Aquarius though. I was disappointed because this was the actual color I ordered and wanted. I love blue lippies and this color is indeed beautiful but the first swipe was very sheer and it moved around a lot. I felt like it wasn’t exactly staying in one place when I was trying to cover my lips. Then I had to keep adding more to get that coverage I wanted. You can build up the color and get a nice opaqueness to it but it takes a lot more product. Now, perhaps I did use a bit too much but I did feel like I needed too with how sheer it was coming off and how it wasn’t staying in one place. This is when I think this got goopy and messy. Every time I would part my lips I felt like I was pulling apart a grilled cheese sandwich. It wasn’t the best experience. I think I will try and use maybe a little less product but I honestly don’t know if the coverage will be the same.

I think it can be hard to produce lighter color makeup products but blues aren’t usually that bad. I think the Heart of Fire color worked because it’s such a deep rich color, unlike Aquarius. Which is very unfortunate. The Heart of Fire does seem to leave a bit more residue like on my lip brush and my hands (NOT staining, though!). The product came off easily with a makeup remover wipe but I felt some of the Heart of Fire color lingered on my brush a little longer. Keep in mind I was just wiping in between colors, not doing full cleanings.

The last color is the 24k, the deep gold, in the classic lipgloss tube. The top is a sleek black matte and the writing on the tube is beautiful. It’s simple but very elegant. This is way easier to apply and went on opaque right out the gate! This is my absolute favorite. It works so well and is a stunning. It’s not a bright yellow gold. It’s more muted and a little bronze-y in color. So it gives that interesting pop without being too overwhelming. I love the tube formula much more than the jars. It’s not goopy at all and very easy to apply. I’m unsure if Aquarius is available in tube form, I believe a deeper dark blue is so maybe I should’ve gotten that one. But overall I would say a complete yes on the tubes and available on the darker colors avaliable in the jar formula.

Unfortunately, there aren’t many colors available in the tube form but I’m hoping it’s something they keep around. I think this company is definitely something to try and that maybe each person has to play around with what they like. Maybe you do like putting on lippies with a brush and not a lipgloss applicator. Just see which works best for you. I can’t wait to rock this gold though!

Black Friday Haul Part 1: BH Cosmetics

When you’re looking to buy good makeup on a budget, Black Friday is the best day to do it! I personally had no idea what I wanted to get for Black Friday and instead took to my makeup Instagram page (@moatb) to look at all the makeup companies and pages I follow to see who had the best sales. I tried to stick with companies that were  doing 40-50% or more from their products. I was looking to definitely get more bang for my buck and I know that a lot of companies and small businesses only do like 10-20% off, which is not a deal. 10% is nothing. This is Black Friday, step your game up.

But anyway, I went to one of my fave companies to see what they had. I think they had decent pricing. I believe it was at least 40-75% off on certain items. I managed to snag an eyeshadow palette, a highlighter palette, a brush set, and my staple foundation.

The breakdown, cost wise, was like this:

Wild & Radiant (Highlighter palette)- $6.00

Foundation- $3.50

Wild & Alluring (Eyeshadow palette)- $7.00

Brush Set- $12

S&H- $7.95

I believe you got free S&H once you hit $50 and I had other places I wanted to buy some so I opted to pay the almost $8 instead of spending about $20 dollars to get free shipping.

I ordered everything on Thursday and BH was the 1st to get to my house on Monday or Tuesday I believe.

I won’t review the foundation because I use it all the time and I’ve featured it in several looks that I’ve done before. Brushes are also kind of hard to review before you use them too so  I’ll just be talking about the design and packaging mostly.

But first is the eyeshadow palette. I picked the Wild & Alluring palette because of course, it was on sale. Not only was it on sale but it looked very similar to the Galaxy Chic palette which is literally my absolute favorite palette (and it’s always on sale but currently it’s out of stock on the website because it was $8 on Black Friday/Cyber Monday!). The eyeshadows in the Wild & Alluring palette are also baked and are mixed colors, so each shadow has multiple colors and shades in it to give lots of dimension in your looks. Because I used the Galaxy Chic palette so much, I figured this one was no different and would hold up really well.20161130_153207[1].jpg

These colors are really gorgeous though there are a few that look very similar to the Galaxy chic palette (2nd row middle and 3rd row last by the highlighter). I really love the top row of yellow-purple shades. The palette also has a highlighter which is a nice bronze and a coral blush. Currently, I’m using a gold eyeshadow color from my Too Faced Pb&J palette, which works splendid but now I have some real powder highlighters to try!

The packaging is really cute too. It’s a simple cardboard package, mirror included, with mermaid scales all around the palette. For $7 I don’t think this is a bad deal, especially with how decently sized the eyeshadows are and how big the highlighter and blush is. I’m not a blush person myself but I could see myself wearing this shade. It’s a medium sized palette as well so depending on your bag it would do well with travel.

Now the Highlighter palette is something I’m also really excited to try. It’s maybe 1/2-3/4 of the size of the eyeshadow palette and I believe part of the same line. It comes with 4 highlighters in varying shades. The shades look a bit similar in the palette but when swatched on skin you can tell the difference easily. There is a bronze, copper, light gold, and I would say a peach gold, which I think all work great on my skin tone. They are super sparkly and nice and smooth! I cannot wait to try them out in a look. I’m so excited for these highlighters!

Swatching them and capturing them in the best lighting was a bit difficult and I’m sorry if they don’t come across as well. I promise that the pigmentation produced on skin swatches (I haven’t done brush swatches yet) were really amazing. I knew that I was going to be glowing with these highlighters! And only $6 for 4 highlighters?? You can’t beat that.

I tried to take pictures in LED lighting and without(which is a bit darker than expected. You guys might have to enlarge it) but shimmery products are kind of hard to capture perfectly. They’re super nice highlighters in my opinion. If any of these are left I would say go get this palette! The Cyber Monday sale is still continuing now.

Last was the brush set. They had cheaper sets than this one. I believe the cheapest was about $7 but only gave you a few brushes. I figured if I was going to get a brand new brush set (because I collect brushes like crazy) I would want a much fuller set. I’m not really a fan of pink but I did really like this metallic pink set. It has 14 brushes total and comes in its own roll up carrying case.

When I first pulled the set out of the box, it was, of course, rolled up. There are two snap closures and is about the size of a longer clutch purse. It’s pretty light and easy to carry as well. It did have a kind of weird candy-plastic smell to it when I unrolled it but it’s only strong if you actually sniff it, like it did haha!.

The brushes are a normal length. The handles are black with shimmery glitter on them which I didn’t notice before! That makes it cuter! The smaller more precise brushes are of course a bit firmer and I’ve noticed the fibers are straighter. The face brushes and some of the fluffier shadow brushes kind of have a wavy texture to the fibers. I don’t think I’ve noticed that in my other BH brushes before. The fibers are still synthetic and soft though and I love my other angled face brush from BH. I’m pretty confident that I’ll like this set, though.

I’m really excited to use my new products from BH! I do love this brand a lot and I always recommend them to others. Join their sale now and see what else you can snag! I have a few more orders coming in so I’ll be doing little haul posts for them as well. See you guys soon.

November Ipsy Bag Unboxing/Review

So yet again I’m late with the Ipsy review but this time it wasn’t because of pure laziness! I had trouble receiving my Ipsy bag. Somehow through their normal shipping means my bag never arrived at my address, even though my aunt gets her Ipsy bag a week before me! It somehow got sucked into mail limbo and never got delivered. I had to contact Ipsy, DHL commerce (who weren’t helpful at all), and my local post office. It was basically a hot mess but Ipsy sent me a replacement bag with the same exact items I was going to get originally. So I’m at least thankful for that. This is the first time I’ve ever had a problem with my ipsy shipping so I was really surprised that this whole mess happened.

But now that that’s all over, I have my 5 items!

The bag is cute. I do like the constellations and the deep blue color. I’m not a fan of the material. It’s weird swimsuit material, as in the full body suits people use for like surfing. I would keep it but I think I could give it to someone as well. It’s a very cute bag but not really my most favorite.

The five items I received were:

Delectable Ultra Nourishing Hand Cream (sweet mint and cream scent)

Elizabeth Mott Color is Bae Lip Lacquer in Moxie Mauve

Benefits Porefessional Primer

Formula X Nail Polish in Huntress

Ofra Banana Highlighting Powder

I think the most disappointing thing I received I think would be the hand cream, especially because it’s a full-size product. I would like my full-size product to be something with a bit more value. I do like creams but I don’t actually use them that often (I should but I don’t). And I really don’t use hand cream specifically. I naturally just kind of have soft baby hands so it’s not something I really need. I will definitely regift this.

The next thing I was disappointed in was the formula and the color. The formula is a lacquer so it’s leaning more towards a cross between a liquid lip and a lipgloss. It’s also shiny and not matte like I like my lipsticks to be. It also was a bit oily in a way? I didn’t shake the bottle before I applied so that might have affected how it came out as well. The color itself is actually very similar to my natural lip color, it just makes it look a bit more pink than normal. So when I put this lip lacquer on it’s like I didn’t even put on a lip color. Ipsy has done this with me before. I think they need to put more lipsticks that are catered to my skin tone (which is on the quiz btw!). I think a lot of the lipsticks they send out are catered to fair skin tones which isn’t fair. Fair does not mean universal and if there’re specific sections on the quiz about skin color and tone than the product determination should be better. But I digress!

The Porefessional primer is something I’ve been wanting to try for awhile so I’m very excited about that. There isn’t much to say about it until I put it to good use!

If you guys have been keeping up with my other Ipsy bags you’ll know that I got another Formula X polish before and it was baby pink, something I’m not a fan of putting on my nails. This color, however, is gorgeous. It looks really dark and it is on the deeper side but it’s a beautiful mixture of blue-green with a slight shimmer to it. If I didn’t already have nail polish on I’d give myself a manicure with this color. It’s stunning and I’m glad I finally got a color I like because I do like Formula X. I used flash on the picture to try and show you guys the kind of gold shimmer the polish has.

Ofra is a company I’ve heard of but I never had a strong inkling to try them. But banana powder is all the rage right now so I figure I’d give it a shot as well. I would like under my eyes to be a bit brighter and I can use this powder to set my concealer and bb cream. It may even become my staple in my makeup for work routine. We’ll see!

As a bonus, my aunt gave me her Purlisse moisturizer and Tarte Maracuja (Sp?) oil since she really doesn’t use face stuff. I guess that is the one good thing about getting 2 Ipsy bags in the same household haha!

Later on this week I’ll be sharing with you guys the awesome deals I got for black friday! There were lots of online makeup sales I hit up and the packages are just starting to roll in so stay tuned!

Halloween Slytherin Look

Yes, I’m aware I’m late on my posts! Life has been weird…not exactly hectic but I am a little lazy. Ok…a lot lazy. But eventually, I will get back to posting like today!

For Halloween, I didn’t go to any parties or anything like that. Instead, I dressed up for work. Since I work in the Cosmetics department I wanted to wear something kind of casual and not really too extravagant. I didn’t know how many people were dressing up so I thought I’d just do something simple. I decided to be a Slytherin!.I love my house very much, no matter what people say. I even have my degree from Hogwarts (that I made from scratch entirely in photoshop and printed on cardstock!). And if we care to get even deeper into my nerdy obsession with the best house, I do have my own Hogwarts character, Alomena Crowley, a major in herbal magic!

So I didn’t have some of the essentials to create the costume. This was very on the fly, day of kind of deal. I had a Hogwarts costume robe before but I couldn’t for the life of me find it so instead I just chose to wear a black v neck shirt (because I also didn’t have a white button up), a black skirt (with pockets!) and  black cardigan with a Slytherin necktie as well as Slytherin sock that have little capes on them and black flats.

I chose to wear my super curly wig because I needed a change of pace from the short wig I wear at work all the time. This I my favorite wig and I get a bunch of compliments on it whenever I wear it.

The face was also simple because I don’t really have much time before I head off to work to get ready. I’m lazy and try to get as much sleep as I can, haha! I used e.l.f. eyeshadow primers, Nyx’s Jumbo eye pencil in Milk for the base, and a combination of my Morphe 12p palette, a green from my Kat Von D Serpentina palette and I believe just a shade or two from my Bh Cosmetics Galaxy Chic palette. I used all green of course. The lid was more so a light whiteish/green, the crease a brighter almost lime green, and the outer corner a darker sparkling emerald. I used Physician’s Formula 2-in-1 Eye boosting Eyeliner to create a wing and added my It Cosmetics Superhero Mascara.

The brows were either my Nyx Eyebrow Pencil or my Anastacia Beverly Hills Dipbrow Pomade. I can’t exactly remember!

The face was just a Covergirl sort of bb cream that was on clearance at my job. It’s pretty lightweight and I’m using it because my Flower BB Cream is running low. I used a smidge of my Covergirl powder foundation to set it then added a bit of Too Faced Cocoa Contour to carve out my face just a bit.

And there you have it! Simple yet super cute and effective. I had a few people recognize that I was from Harry Potter so I’d call it a success! It was also super fun and I felt more like myself instead of wearing my boring uniform. Hopefully I’ll get to do something a bit more extravagant next year!

October Ipsy Bag

Hello, my lovelies! Yes, I know I am very late with this post. I blog off and on because of various life factors so I apologize that this is late.

So October’s theme was Black Magic and I’ve got to say the bag for this month was LITERALLY my absolute favorite. It perfectly fits my aesthetic of creepy and cute. I loved the design, the color, the absolute everything! I really would like to attach some chain to it and make it a mini purse instead of a clutch. I need this print in like t-shirts and leggings asap! I adored it.

The items that I got in the glam bag were also pretty stellar as well.

Here’s what I got:

seem uniform but I played with it for a matter of a few seconds and I already had hairs falls out. I like the overall look, feel and design of the brush but I don’t think it’s going to be a success when actually applying eyeshadow.

Another Trestique product, as If I hadn’t gotten so many products from them before. Now don’t get me wrong, I enjoy the Trestique products but like I said when I kept getting The Balm Cosmetics products, it does get tiring. I have gotten a variety of products from them; an eyeshadow stick, a highlighting stick, and now a lipstick. I enjoy the design and compact size of Trestique but I want some new brands. The lipstick is very smooth, however. It’s a basic color, something I’d wear to work, not really exciting. The formula is nice as well. It’s very soft, blends and glides on the lips and the color turnout is pretty nice as well. It doesn’t look like it will bleed like other cream lipsticks but we’ll see. It’s not a bad product at all, the color is just a little boring.

The last thing I got are these eye patches for under eye renew. I guess this would help relieve puffiness. According to the product description on Ulta’s website, it helps create a “smoother, brighter, more youthful appearance.” I originally got 2 little packets that contain 2 undereye gel patches each. The gel patches feel a bit slimy and the serum kind of makes them wiggle around a bit on the skin. There’s a lot of left over serum once you take them off and they do dry just a bit as you let it stay on your skin. It didn’t irritate my undereye at all and I smoothed the rest of the serum into my skin as directed. I think they’re a fun little spa treat but I definitely wouldn’t go out of my way to get a full $50 jar of them. They might be geared towards older skin but you’re never too young for skincare. My under eyes do feel soft, though!

Alright guys, that’s it for this bag! I’m maybe going to do a quick update on my November bag because I already can see the products that I’m getting. They look pretty good! Let me know what you guys got and what you liked and didn’t like!

September Ipsy Glam Bag Review/Unboxing

This month’s theme was Glamazon. I was pretty neutral on this theme as I didn’t really peek at the products before hand. I’ve forgotten about my ipsy bags and it’s more of a surprise when it just shows up and i can look at my things; like a birthday gift, haha! I felt good about almost all the products in my bag except one. I got another hair product which annoys the shit out of me because I constantly get them and I don’t even have hair products selected on my quiz. It’s like ipsy isn’t even paying attention to what you want.

The bag’s design is ok. I think it’s cute but it isn’t really my style. I’ve been getting a lot of cute bags lately but I’m not a fan of this one.

The items I received were

IT Cosmetics Superhero Mascara

Ombre Angle Brush from Crown Brush

Living Proof Perfect Hair day 5-in-1 Styling treatment

Waxing Kara Sweet Lips Organic Honey Lip Balm

trestique Mini Highlight Stick

I don’t mind the mascara because I always like travel size mascaras and mascara is a pretty versatile tool. The brush isn’t as wide as i’m used too but the last time I said I didn’t like a mascara from ipsy I ended up loving it so I will use this one before i judge haha. I did hear that this was a good mascara also.

Brushes are also something I do like getting in my ipsy bag. You can always use more brush. The fibers feel synthetic but are still really soft There is also a groove to rest your thumb and get a nice grip as well.

I don’t really do much with my natural hair. It’s still short and I don’t blowdry it at all. I usually let it air dry then flat iron it the next day. I don’t even really have a use for it or want to try it so I think I will give it to my aunt.

The lip balm I am excited for because I use chapstick every single day of my life. I can’t leave home without it, literally! Chapstick is my life. Theres not really a smell to it other than a slight honey smell. I don’t think it’s flavored either. There are 8 ingredients total, all of which are pronounceable and familiar such as vitamin e, hempseed oil, and rosemary extract. I love organic chapsticks and soaps So this is probably my favorite product.

I’m also really excited about the highlighting stick. I’ve gotten things from trestique before through ipsy and while I haven’t really used their products that much I think they’re still pretty good. I’ve been getting different highlighters as well, mostly creams, so it’d be nice to try a solid. Plus it’s easy to roll up and apply, what’s better than that! The real problem is that there is barely enough product in this trial size so it seems like a ripoff. Depending on how much highlighter you use, you could be done with the product in just a handful of uses.

I’d give this bag a 4/5 because the hair product was the only thing I didn’t like. Everything else was useful and would be things I would maybe repurchase. I only got 2 new brands this months so i wish they could’ve expanded on that but I’ve also never tried IT Cosmetics so that’s a plus. There are plenty of other products I would’ve liked to try from this month’s list so I think overall there were some pluses. The full product list looked like it contained a lot of hair and facial products. I wouldn’t have minded the face products but I do like more actual makeup in my bags. But I guess I’m grateful I didn’t get another the Balm item, lol!

What did you guys get in your bags? Did you liked them, loved them, hated them? Let me know!

MOTD: Green Kween

I’ve been dying to do a green centered look for awhile now. I’ve been seeing a lot of graphic liners and different kind of looks that aren’t just basic makeup looks so I wanted to try something a little avant garde. I’ve been having some problems with my makeup creativity and doubting my skills as an MUA, so I thought this look would spark some sort of passion again.

List of Products Used:

ABH Dipbrow Pomade in Ebony

Elf Eyeshadow Primer

Loreal Magic Lumi Face Primer

Mac Eyeshadow in Lucky Green

KvD Serpentina Palette in Scarab

Nyx Jumbo Eye Pencil in Rocky Mountain Green

Sephora Olive Green Eyeshadow

BH Cosmetics Foundation in Golden Beige

ABH Contour Cream palette in Medium

Pixel Party Proof Eyeliner in Unforgettable Emerald

Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara

Jcat Beauty Wonder Lip Pain is Pishslaver

OCC Liptar in tarred

Physician’s Formula 2-in-1 Eye Booster Eyeliner

It was hard to capture the different shades of green I used thanks to the crappy lighting in my house. I’m working on getting a clip on ring light for taking selfies and hopefully that might help. I had been seeing some graphic liners used under the brow on Instagram and I wanted to try that but I dont think I executed it well enough. I probably would’ve just used the green liner only. I used a geometric template (like the ones you used to get in elementary school) to pat various green eyeshadows in the shape of small triangles. I tried to use a white eyeliner to outline the shapes but it wasn’t showing up at well with my foundation on. So i ended up just using the template. It was a bit hard to see where I wanted the triangles to go since the template itself is big. So I would’ve planned out where I wanted the triangles to go a little better.

The lips were my favorite. I tried to do a dual color lip, using the green on the bottom and black lip paint on top but the green wasn’t coming out nice enough. Of course since the lip tars stay moistly wet so they started to mix a little and it turned into a weird color, with the black dominating over the green. So I decided to go back in with the green shadows I used over top and it basically turned something bad into something amazing. I loved the look of the shadows on top of the lip tar and I liked how the powders kind of set the liptars so they weren’t moving around as much.

I also wanted to do a green contour but that didn’t turn out as nicely as I would’ve wanted. Overall I really like the shadows I used and how the lips turned out but I need to work on my eyebrows and adding “theatrics” to my looks. I want to try things that are more artistic and out of the ordinary.

Have you guys hit any makeup stumps? Or creativity blocks in general? They’re the absolute worst! Tell me how you overcome them and offer any advice you have!:)

The “I Really Shouldn’t Have Used my Credit Card and Now I Regret it but Only Slightly” Haul

This past weekend I hung out with my friends in Cleveland. I live about an hour or so from the city so I haven’t really explored much of it. However we went to the mall and I was in absolute heaven. The first store I saw was Lush and of course I lost it. I had previously ordered stuff from Lush on their website but had never entered a Lush retail store before. Now i wasn’t too impressed with the bath bombs I ordered but I never gave up on the brand. Since I no longer have a bathtub to use bathbombs in i decided to go for the face products and soaps and of course SHOWER JELLIES!

The three soaps I got were Layer Cake, Respect Your Elders, and Figs and Leaves. I got the SHower Jelly in Refresher, the facial mask Love Lettuce and a sample of Ocean Sea salt scrub. Layer Cake has Grape, orange, blueberry, pineapple and raspberry and literally smells like a bag of gummy bears. It’s so sweet and bright. It’s kind of a scent I don’t really go for in soaps but I thought I’d try something different. Now of course every cut bar of soap is different and mine came out looking like a bag of melted gunny bears-and I mean that in the best way possible. You can buy all of these soaps online as well.

Respect Your Elders is a mix of floral and berry; elderberries to be exact. It’s a gorgeous deep purple with swirls of light pink, light purple, and a little bit of white. It’s sweet and floral  but not overpowering. It’s pretty gentle and absolutely gorgeous.

The last soap I got was Figs and Leaves which is the most earthy, feature figs, their leaves and seeds, as well as orange blossom and aloe vera. It’s warm and classic, reminding me of oatmeal body scrubs which are my favorite. It almost makes me want to eat it. The seeds also provide an exfoliating scrub as well.

The shower jelly is something I’ve never tried before but because everyone was talking about and because it friggin’ jiggles I had to get one! I got Refresher with is a lemon based jelly. And it is super lemon-y fresh!

The last two things I got were the Love Lettuce Facial Mask and the Ocean Sea Salt Face and Body Scrub (sample size). I’ve tried the Love Lettuce mask and will probably write a full review on an upcoming post. But I will say it is a really nice smooth (i mean smooth going on as it has some exfoliating properties)mask. The sea salt scrub I tried in store and I enjoyed but i didn’t like that it only came in 2 sizes both of which were too expensive for me. I’d like to see if there is a recipe for it online so i can make it on my own.

Next I went to MAC, which was also the first time I had ever been in a MAC retail store. Now I personally don’t like many of the MAC formulas, mostly the lipsticks; they’re too smudgey, some aren’t pigmented enough, they’re semi ok. But I did end up getting 2 lipsticks from them, a eye liner, and 4 eyeshadows that I put into a eyeshadow palette as well as a mini Fix +.

You can by the palettes without the inserts, or with them. I think the mini 4 eyeshadow palette with the insert already in it was about $8. There are bigger palettes and ones without inserts to snap the eyeshadows into as well. Each single eyeshadow was around $6.

Referencing the second picture on the right the colors are Amber Lighters, Trax (purple), Steamy (Teal/Green), and Lucky Green. They’re all shimmers as well.

The two lipsticks I got were a sort of periwinkle purple/lavender ish color and a sheer shimmery blue. The purple is called Dew from the satin lipstick collection and the sheer one is called Soft Hint from the Frost lipstick collection. I left the swatches a little dark so you could see how sheer the Soft Hint is and the Dew is a little bit more pastel than what it’s showing.

the eyeliner im a little disappointed in, only because the one I got is defective. It doesn’t retract up or down so I hope I can eventually return it.

The last store I visited was Sephora and for once I got only 1 thing; the Kat Von D Sepentina Palette. It’s a really beautiful palette and has to be one of my faves. The packaging was pretty basic, stacked cardboard with a small hole cut out to fit the loose pigment eyeshadow and a mirror. It’s still very sleek and elegant though. I’m not sure how I feel about the loose pigment, not only because I’m not a fan of loose pigment but I mean it also could’ve easily been another pressed shadow and we could’ve gotten something like a lipstick or eyeliner.

I’ve actually used some of the eyeshadows since I bought this palette and they are gorgeous. Nicely pigmented and smooth, they flow onto the skin and a little goes a long way. I love having a nice variety of colors and not just another neutral palette. I love this bright colors and they have a bit of shimmer to them for that extra pop. I believe the palette was about $45 which is the general price for palettes these days and it’s definitely cheaper than buying one of her single eyeshadows which are usually $18-21 each. If you’ve like to try a KvD eyeshadow before buying a larger palette like this she has quad palettes for about $30, still a little pricey but that’s all up to you. I think KvD does great work and most of her products are worth it. Her foundations and concealers are next on my list, but I wouldn’t buy things like the brushes or a neutral lip. When I spend money on lippies they have to be a fun funky color or else I could get a nude lip anywhere, you know?

Now I know this was an expensive haul and I aim towards trying to get budget makeup deals and lower end products. I actually don’t buy makeup a lot and this was a kind of spur of the moment thing. However there are some things that are affordable and on the lower end that I have found in stores. In Lush you can buy gift sets that have trial sizes, full sizes, sizes not offered in stores and you get a range of items. You can get pre made ones or make one and fill it with things you want specifically. This depends on what you actually want. Since this was my first time in Lush and I can’t buy bath bombs I wanted to focus on shower and face needs. You can stay away from the pricier full size items and try to go for the smallest size possible. Beware some of the smaller sizes can actually be like $20-$30 depending on what the product is, so you might just have to pass those. You can also ask for sample jars which can last you one to two applications. Soaps are cut and weighed so you can get small sizes for like $4 each.

In Mac I would stay away from the lipsticks as I’m not a fan of most of their formulas but the single eyeshadow are only $6 so you could get a couple. You also don’t really have to buy the compact no matter how much they goat you into it. Sephora is a bit harder because most things are expensive and it’s hard to spend less money, even with travel sizes and gift sets. But the sets that are usually around the checkout area can offer some good things. I got a KvD lipstick and eyeliner set once for around $18 bucks. Not ideal for quantity but you get to try some products at least. But man do I wish Sephora had coupons, haha!

Hope you guys enjoyed my haul! See you soon

August Ipsy Bag

Finally I can say I love almost everything in this month’s bag! This month’s theme was Sugar Highness, which is right up my alley. While I don’t think Michelle Phan is the greatest artist in the world, she made two designs for the bags this month and I think they’re absolutely adorable. I got the pastel lavender one that has a makeup crown (which I think I want to try to make irl!)

I absolutely love the design for this one and I think I will keep this one. It’s much more roomy than some of the previous bags I’ve gotten.

Now onto what I actually received!

Symphony Beauty Makeup Cleansing Wipes- Moisturise Cucumber & Aloe Vera

Formula X Nail Polish in DollFace

NYX Born to Glow Liquid Illuminator

Trust Fund Beauty Lipgasm Liquid Lipstick in K, Bye

Dr. G Brightening Peel Gel

I was happy with most of what I received. The only thing I didn’t like was the nail polish and that was only because the color is too pale pink for me. I swatched a little on my nail and the coating is great, I’d recommend two coats but the color wasn’t working for me. I’m selling this on ebay in hopes that it goes to a good home, or someone who really wanted it in their Ipsy bag. Click here!

I liked the makeup wipes. They do have some texture to it but they’re still very soft. The smell is calming and i’ve used a wipe or two to get rid of some swatches I had tested. It didn’t really irritate my skin or anything. I like the travel size also because I always need a travel size pack of makeup remover wipes. It’s gentle on the skin and takes off most of the makeup in a few wipes. The liquid lipstick swatch I did required just a smidge of rubbing but it came off quite easily. On Amazon a pack of 60 wipes is only 9.99, which i think is a fairly good bargin especially since most makeup wipes come in a pack of 25 and retail about 5-6 dollars. I know Neutrogenas wipes are about this much. I would go the extra few bucks and get even more. While I love Equates (Walmart off brand) makeup remover wipes I think these are stronger and might get off more makeup in less swipes.

The Nyx Illiminator is a liquid highlighter that is very shimmery but not very pigmented. It gives shine rather than color. The tube is similar to a lip gloss tube and you squeeze the product out. Coming out of the tube it looks very pigmented but once you apply it onto the skin and blend it out it becomes very sheer. I do not mind this at all. It really like how sheer it is since I’m not too crazy about highlighting. I mean I like highlighting but I dont like going overboard with it. I love NYX in general and I was super excited to get one of their products in my bag. This was the only brand other than Formula X which I had seen on Sephora’s website that I’ve heard of and used before.

The Dr G Brightening Peeling Gel is a Korean beauty product. ON the tube itself it says ‘instantly brighten and clarify skin by eliminating dead skin cells with this gentle and powerfully effective Vitamin-infused peeling gel.” It says to apply using circular motions and rinse after wards. Nothing about dry time or anything so I assume it more like a cleanser? It comes out like a cream and as you start rubbing it into the skin it begins to clump up perhaps as a gentle exfoliant to get rid of the dead skin cells? I’m kind of weary on this product as I’m not a big fan of Korean facial beauty products but I would like to try it.

The liquid lipstick was something I was really excited for. This was a full size product and the color swatched marvelously. However as I’m starting to learn, swatches can lie. Not the product is great itself; it goes on smooth, has a nice scent to it, nice pigmentation but again like the Formula X when I tried it on it just wasn’t the right color for me. Now I don’t think this dries matte, the website says “Almost matte”. So I assume theres a bit of drying but it also has shine, which I noticed. I would definitely try this brands lipstick in a different color especially because it’s vegan and cruelty free. Not all my makeup is but I feel a little better when I use a product that is cruelty free. I’m also selling this one in hopes that it goes to a better home. Retail price is $22. Click here!

I’d give this bag about a 3.5/5. I liked 3 of the products and the formulas of the nail polish and lipsticks. If they were in colors I’d enjoy and looked good on me then I would’ve definitely given this bag a 5/5! What did you guys get in your Ipsy bags this month? Make sure to like and comment, I’d love to hear what you think!
